Goddess Interrupted by Aimee Carter

Goddess Interrupted (Goddess Test, #2)

Paperback304 pages
Expected publication: March 27th 2012 by HarlequinTeen

Premise: Ganked from Goodreads:

Kate Winters has won immortality.
But if she wants a life in the Underworld with Henry, she’ll have to fight for it.
Becoming immortal wasn’t supposed to be the easy part. Though Kate is about to be crowned Queen of the Underworld, she’s as isolated as ever. And despite her growing love for Henry, ruler of the Underworld, he’s becoming ever more distant and secretive. Then, in the midst of Kate’s coronation, Henry is abducted by the only being powerful enough to kill him: the King of the Titans.
As the other gods prepare for a war that could end them all, it is up to Kate to save Henry from the depths of Tartarus. But in order to navigate the endless caverns of the Underworld, Kate must enlist the help of the one person who is the greatest threat to her future.
Henry’s first wife, Persephone.

My Review (no spoilers):

I have two reviews for this book… since it doesn’t come out ‘til March 27th, I’m not going to SPOIL it!!  But I do have to talk about it, so I shall have another review for after. This is the BP Review (Before Publication).

Kate continues as the central character of the story. (Yay!) She doesn’t see as much of her mom, which didn’t bother me a bit. She does have moments of decisiveness that influence her life and those around her. ("Moments" - read into that what you will.) She does go on a long trek through the Underworld to save her husband (like the premise says.)

Her Henry grows in amazingness. (Yay!!)  He is powerful and unequaled even among the Council of deity. (I like that.) Only a Titan could cause him so much trouble that his young wife must come to his rescue. (Whether or not she rescues him, you'll have to read to find out!)  When you near the end, you'll come upon this amazing scene where Henry reveals so much character... I was just cheering from the sidelines!!

This story continues their relationship, the tug and pull of first love. Kate second-guesses herself even more than she did during TheGoddess Test. She tries not to worry, but the situation continues to get harder instead of easier at every turn and in every way.

Oh... and Persephone?  She's fun to hate.

There. Now read it!!  :-)

My Rating:  3 - Cute.

[Some might disagree with "cute" who found Test "annoying". My not-exactly-enthusiastic rating is where the book averaged out for me.

I commented through-out the week how I would like to have a conversation with Kate which included some recommendations.  So...
                 1) the book was believable enough for me to be in the Underworld conversing with a real-live Kate. That's a HUGE plus. And
                 2) I didn't like, uh, some of Kate's choices.

As I already said... if Kate would just keep a journal, noting down important things like "How I feel" along with the date and time of day, that would help a lot with the worrying. She could refer to her journal and think, "Hey, it was just half an hour ago I decided this was Ok, so I'll wait another half hour before changing my opinion!"  It's an idea.

She could also note down her before-mentioned moments of decisiveness and the results. That way when another BRILLIANT idea comes to her out of the blue, she can refer to her journal, again, and... well, maybe seek counsel from someone who also has an opinion.  For example.

If you totally LOVED The Goddess Test, this book is a no-brainer. And it ends rather cliff-hanger-y, so the third is must read, too.  I will post a raving/ranting fit-throwing, SPOILER-FILLED review AP (after it's published.)]

The Awesome Author:

Aimée Carter

In her own words:
I'm really not very interesting at all. I attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and received a degree in Screen Arts and Cultures (a fancy way of saying I was forced to watch a lot of old movies) with a subconcentration in Screenwriting. I write. I watch a lot of new movies. Read a lot of books. Tweet too much. Love dogs and have two spoiled Papillons.
I'm represented by the magical Rosemary Stimola of Stimola Literary Studio, and on very rare occasions I blog over at WordPress. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Doesn't she sound so approachable? Anyone who comes up with this whole Underworld goddess series is undoubtedly interesting!
