Thanks, guys, for making such a great hang-out for us book blogging types to hang out and have fun!!
Q: Have you had a character that disappointed you? One that you fell in love with and then "broke up" with later on in either the series or a stand-alone book? Tell us about him or her.
Ha! Ha-HA!!
Ok... yea.
I was a die-hard fan of the Dragonriders of Pern. I read every book as soon as they came out. I reread them and read them backwards and forwards. I dreamed dragons... flying dragons... winking in-n-out of between on dragons... bonding with them on the hot nesting sands, scrubbing 'em down as they grew out of their skin they were so BIG and so COOL and so VICIOUS!!
But they just aren't the same anymore. I don't mean anything bad towards Todd McCaffrey, I just stopped reading them and never looked back.
Well, I like the first ones still, but I haven't read any of the new ones and I don't wanna.
What about you? Have you "broken up" with a book?!

It's always sad when a series jumps the shark, or when readers outgrow a series.

Oh, now I'm nervous! I've read the first three (LOVED them) and have the rest on my shelf just waiting. I wondered how things would change when Todd took over. Hopefully it won't be a big problem for me.

Well... I love all the drummer ones and island ones and back-in-time ones and the White Dragon. You gotta keeeeeeeeeeep going and then tell me what you think!!!
DeleteI can still taste those bubbly pies at market day. You have to keep reading 'til you can't. MUST!
Aww...poor dragons
ReplyDeleteHopping through. I've never heard of Dragonriders of Pern. What is the series about?

Oh wow, my bookish housemate has exactly the same opinions on these! I've only read a couple of the books (and out of series as well *slaps wrist*) but I kind of want to finish them!
ReplyDeleteTara @ Hey, Tara
I haven't read the books yet, but there is a "dragon" in the title and therefore the novels shall be bought asap. *grin*

I know!!
DeleteThese books spoilt me forever regarding dragons. Do start with the first three. I love Lessa!!!!
Ahh! Hilarious answer!!!!! Happy Friday! Too bad the series now disappoints you.

ReplyDeleteI admit I have not read this series yet, though you seem like you're really addicted to them ^^ It's nice to have a series that does that to you.

Thanks for stopping by. It's always awkward when another author (family or not) steps in to write a series . . . sometimes that magic is just lost.

Yup, I totally get it. Sometimes you love love LOVE a series and then...just stop reading for whatever reason. No worries, happens to me all the time.

ReplyDeleteI haven't read those books although I am not a big fan of dragons. That could probably be why I haven't considered reading them. Thank you for sharing.
