Premise:

Tyrfingr.

Its appearing portends the end of the world...or the beginning of a new age. Some believe it to be a grimoire, a book of ancient evil with the power to divide the truth from lies, light from darkness, bone from marrow, the soul from the spirit. Some say it even has the power to raise the dead back to life. Others claim it to be the marvelous Sword of Light - the sword that could only be drawn from its resting place on the Corner Stone beneath the Dome of the Rock by the hand of the true king, who will himself return from the dead to deliver mankind at its darkest hour.

One thing is sure - whoever holds Tyrfingr rules the world. Two men long for its power. Only one can pull it from the Stone.
This is an amazing novel. From the outset it is gripping and tense. I cannot imagine an America after such an apocalyptic event – this book tells me just that. If you like suspense, action, and thrills then this is for you. The best book I have read in years. – GP Taylor, #1 New York Times Best-Selling Author of Shadowmancer
Intriguing!!! I have always been curious about swords in general, never mind the one that wedged in a stone so no one could pull it out!!  When Wordcrafts Press asked if I'd be interested in this book, I could not say "no". The author has gone beyond my dreams, however, sharing his Top Ten favorite swords. *rubs hands gleefully*  Please welcome Mike Parker to Colorimetry!!

Top Ten Cool Swords I’d Love To Own

by Mike Parker

The central element in my novel, “The Scavengers,” is Tyrfingr, the legendary Sword in the Stone, which might or might not be an actual sword. Swords play a key role in much of the history and mythology of culture from around the world. Here’s my Top Ten list of some the coolest sword from both fact and fiction.

Feel free to add your own favorite swords to the list.

1) Excalibur - The sword wielded by King Arthur. Though legends confuse whether this was the sword he pulled from the stone, or the sword given to him by the Lady of the Lake, Excalibur has to rank highest on my Top Ten list of the coolest swords.

2) The Flaming Sword of Eden - When Adam and Eve ate from the Tree of Knowledge, God drove them out of the Garden of Eden, lest they also eat of the Tree of Life and live forever in their sin. Then He set an angel with a flaming sword to guard the entrance to Eden.

3) Calandor - The sword that is not a sword, from Robert Jordan’s epic “Wheel of Time” fantasy series. Calandor is an object of immense power that appears as a crystal sword. Only the hand of the Dragon Reborn to take Calandor from the Stone of Tear.

4) Sting - The Elvish sword (actually a long-knife) carried by Bilbo Baggins in J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic, “The Hobbit.” Sting had the distinct and peculiar trait of glowing blue anytime gobblins were near.

5) The Power Sword - What kid before the turn of the century can forget Prince Adam raising his Power Sword high and crying out, “By the power of Grayskull...I Have The Power!” Yep, the sword of He-Man is definitely on my Top Ten list of the world’s coolest swords.

6) Narsil/Anduril - The sword of the Kings of Gondor in Middle Earth. Originally wielded by Elindil to defeat Sauron, the blade of Narsil was shattered, only to be reforged by the Elves as Anduril and given to Aragorn, who used it to once again lead Middle Earth in battle against the forces of evil.

7) The Vorpal Sword - What sword goes “snicker snack?” The Vorpal sword, of course. It is the only weapon that can dispatch the dreaded jabberwock. At least according to British poet, Lewis Carroll.

8) The Atlantian Sword - The ultra-cool sword crafted by Conan the Barbarian’s father, it was made of the miraculous material, steel.

9) William Wallace’s Claymore - If bigger is better, then it just doesn’t get any better than the massive sword wielded by William Wallace in his fight for Scottish independence. Made famous by Mel Gibson in the Academy Award winner, “Braveheart,” the Claymore is also the name for a particularly nasty anti-personnel mine used by the U.S. Army.

10) Luke Skywalker’s Light Saber - An elegant weapon...for a more civilized age.

I seriously love this list!!!  I wouldn't have thought of The Flaming Sword of Eden, but that had to be a humdinger! I'm partial to Light Sabers. As evidenced by the collection "my kids" own. I'm going to be thinking of sword names all night now... doesn't Ash's sword have a name? My all-time favorite is Gonturan from The Blue Sword. *drums fingers* We must remember some more awesome ones...
