Book Review sorta: Frozen, Heart of Dread by Melissa de la Cruz and Michael Johnston

What am I reading?  So glad you asked!!

I started Frozen:

Frozen (Heart of Dread, #1)Not gonna finish it.  Nope.  The cover is beautiful, although, the cover on my Now Reading shelfari is more appropriate.

To be fair, the "bones" of the story are fantastic. The idea behind the story is vibrant and pulses with its own life.  That lasted me about 40% of the way through.

Then I kept getting hung up on raw, unfinished edges. Like catching brain slivers. Irritating blocks of action with no reaction or emotion or what the heck?!?!  I mean, some awesome action is nice, but random weird stuff?  If you've read this... where I got hung up was the scene with the polar bear.  I mean, I couldn't stumble over my WHY?s fast enough.  Why does Natasha walk towards the bear. Because it's alive. No mention of size or astonishment or cute-n-cuddly - I mean, what's she thinking?  It starts running towards her and she stands there, like, Whoa, man!  Her friends also stand there like, Dude, that's a bear. You're going to get hit by that bear, man.  And then BAM!  It's dead.  Dead.  Dropped instantly dead. I mean, I got a feeling that Phew, that was close!  I mean, you feel that way if you drop a hammer and get your foot out of the way really fast, you know? Phew!  Didn't drop a hammer on my foot. I mean, you don't say that when a huge polar bear drops dead at your feet, you know?  Dodged that one!

4 Stars for the story bones, 1.5 Stars for the delivery.

In Contrast...
This book totally ROCKS!!

Um... to be continued...  *cough*
