Keeping her safe at all costs

Could their backgrounds be any more different? Rick Vasquez, a K-9 unit sergeant with the San Diego Police Department, fled drug-related violence in Mexico as a boy. Madison Long, who recently became primary veterinarian to the SDPD's canines, is the privileged daughter of a judge. Rick has dedicated his life to curtailing cross-border drug trafficking and preventing other young boys from being drawn into the dark world of the cartels.

But everything Rick and Madison value, and the growing love between them, is threatened by the dangers of Rick's job, and the risks he's determined to take…

Ten Character Traits of A Veterinarian

Madison Long, the heroine from When Love Matters Most, is a veterinarian. Not only is she the primary caregiver for the San Diego Police Department’s police service dogs, she is conducting ground-breaking research involving platelet-rich plasma therapy, to help animals heal from injury.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like dating a veterinarian? Here are ten character traits of veterinarians:

1. Since furry patients can be stubborn and aggressive, veterinarians have learned to respond to chaos with patience, gentleness and a calming demeanor.

2. Veterinarians are passionate about their work. They don’t choose the career for prestige or money. They care about their work, and their heart is in the right place.

3. Veterinarians work hard. They endure many years of tough schooling, long hours at clinics and unexpected middle-of-the-night calls.

4. Veterinarians save lives, ease pain and helps lives end with dignity.

5. Veterinarians have thick skins. They endure scratches and bites in the quest to treat and heel their furry patients.

6. Veterinarians are big-hearted, often shedding tears with a pet owner when an animal is injured or his life ends, and rejoicing with them when they’re heeled.

7. Veterinarians have the strength to do the right thing even when it is difficult to do.

8. Veterinarians take things in stride. They can laugh at the messes and stresses that come with working with animals.

9. Veterinarians make kids smile.

10. Veterinarians know how to reassure others in stressful, difficult times. They know how to prepare people for bad news and console them when that bad news comes.
