Premise:

People get divorced, but that's what happens to other people. That's what Claire thought anyway, until her husband, Charlie, tells her he wants a divorce.

Claire has no choice but to take on the title of Divorced Woman, and face the question she has no idea how to answer. Who is Claire without Charlie? Her family believes her newly divorced woes can be cured by landing herself a boyfriend. With her dating dunce cap in hand, Claire stumbles her way through the foreign territory of online dating.

A teacher from hell, a softball coach, and a sap later, Claire proclaims herself the dating idiot she thought she was, and fears she's doomed to be a lonely, crazy cat lady. But an accidental run-in with an old acquaintance might change everything. What starts with comparing dating battle wounds over a cup of coffee, quickly turns into something Claire had given up on.

As Claire discovers maybe there is love after Charlie after all, Charlie realizes his mistake. He wants her back, and he'll do anything to prove it to her. Now Claire must choose who deserves her heart, and if she's really willing to give it away again.

Interview:

I am happy to welcome Darian Wilk to Colorimetry!!  She has offered a print copy AND e-copy to win her book. Thank you, Darian!!

What inspired you to write Reinventing Claire?

--The idea actually came to me while watching another couple one night while at a restaurant; people watching like I love do to.  A scene unfolded in my mind, and Claire's journey presented itself to me.  One of the jobs as a writer is to sift through the many ideas that pop into our weird little minds, and seek out the one worth telling.  For me, Claire's story kept coming back to mind, and I think for a few reasons.  Her story starts by her husband saying he wants a divorce, and while not every woman can relate to that - I think we can all relate to a journey of change.  Which at heart is what this book is about.  I think we've all been down that scary, thrilling path, when we take our life by the reins, or when sometimes life takes us by the reins - and leads us down the road of change.  And we come out a newer, stronger woman because of it.  That was the biggest inspiration for me, the idea of acceptance of change, and being brave through its ride.

Me -n- change get along really well. I'm always... oh, man, I was gonna write "re-inventing". I'm  just gonna say, HOW INTRIGUING!!

Can you share a favorite scene?

--There are two scenes that stand out the most to me as a reader, the first actually being the opening scene.  Claire is at the end of one of those days, when everything you touch goes wrong, she's been fired, and her husband takes her out to dinner to forget about the day.  And then tells her he's been cheating on her, and he wants a divorce.  Even though I wrote it, the shock and pain of the moment for Claire pulls me in deeper than I expected every time I read it.  Seldom a writer has a moment when they're surprised at what they wrote - that scene is one of those for me.

Ouch. Wow.

The other being a scene later in the story, when Claire decides to try this change thing, and go with her sister to pick out paint for her new home.  While sifting through swatches, she has a total meltdown - I mean absolute hysterics, waving color samples in peoples faces, crying and laughing; all because in that moment she realizes she's lost herself in her husband - and has no idea what she, Claire alone, likes.  And as a wife and mom, I can relate to that.  We all sometimes get lost in our 'titles', and have to take time to make sure we hold on to ourselves as we are.  Not so-and-so's wife, or mother, just us as we are.  And that scene, for me, reminds me of that.

Lol - this sounds totally awesome. I can't wait to read this!!

Please tell me something personal about you!!  Do you have a hobby?

--Between being a mom to two kids, wife, writer, and book reviewer, there's not much time left for hobbies!  But, I do love a good project to appease my crafty side.  I'll refinish an old end-table, paint and stencil a picture frame, or do a quick sewing project.  Nothing huge mind you, I've not yet tackled trying pants or shirts!

So cool!!  I have a crafty side, too! Although... those projects sound big for my skills. I think I could sew if I ever really tried. Maybe.

I also love to dance, whether or not I'm good at it, well you'd have to ask someone else that!  I hardly get to go out dancing anymore, I'm afraid I'm on the cusp of being 'too old' for that to be acceptable.  But I dance when I don't mean to, when a song catches my attention at a store I'll unknowingly start bobbing my head, then the hips starts wiggling - then my daughter chimes in with "Mooooommmm!!!" all red faced and horrified as if the entire store can see me!  My foot taps to every commercial with catchy music, it's terrible really!  When music is on anywhere, my body has a mind of its own and responds to the beat.

Lol... this makes me want to see what would happen if we asked you to re-enact the scene with the swatches and turned up the music. That's awesome.

I also have a weird, umm, not hobby, but...I love washing my car!  Not because it's a fantastic piece of beauty, but because it relaxes me. I've yet to figure out why, maybe that's where seeing a doctor might help!  But maybe it's the little bit of time to myself, that sliver of 30 minutes to just clear my head.

Nice. So... your family lets you have those 30 minutes, hey? I can imagine how that would be relaxing.

Thank you for sharing, Darian!! This has been fun!!
