Literary Give@way - Mansfield Park

Literary Giveaway Blog Hop via

Literary Giveaway Blog Hop

This is a unique Giveaway... specifically for a Literary book. There are over 50 other participants in the Hop - see below! It's a great opportunity to win a something great & book-ish.

I am giving away a copy of Mansfield Park by Jane Austen. This book is bookshelf worn, a 2006 printing, but the binding is perfect, un-broken (just waiting for YOU!!) This is an adorable cover, a Headline Review paperback printed in England. Why do I have it? Books are drawn to me from over the ocean. They come, flocking, fighting for space on my bookshelves.  Ok, not really... it's an extra Powell's Bookstore treasure-find.

Premise to Mansfield Park from the back cover:
"I cannot think well of a man who sports with any woman's feelings"
When the gorgeous Henry Crawford and his pretty sister Mary come to Mansfield Park, they've no dea what a disturbance they will cause. There they find the Bertram family, with their beautiful daughters and handsome sons - and Fanny Price.
Eighteen-year-old Fanny has grown up in the shadow of her glamorous relations. In fact, no one seems to remember she's there at all, which is why they don't notice that she's gradually been falling in love. But while she hides a secret passion, she has no idea she's become an object of interest herself for another admirer. As a scandal begins to unfold that will have devastating effects on everyone, Fanny discovers that love will blossom in the most unusual of places...
Jane Austens's most sophisticated love story, Mansfield Park is a bewitching tale of intrigue, redemption and love lost and found.
Jane Austen wrote Mansfield Park immediately after Pride & Prejudice (although, I guess Northanger Abbey was published between the two, it had been written prior.) This story is opposite in many ways. Fanny is very passive, very gentle, very moral. She is not like any of Austen's other heroines and causes quite a lot of controversy in the review world all by herself.

Fanny gets thrown into this money-hungry mix of games and gets involved despite herself. There's an odd love circle (definitely not triangle!) that doesn't have an easy finish. Austen's deep thoughts are buried in casual moments as she stirs up the trouble until there's no HEA way out. I have heard this book is nothing like the movie version.

(That's Happily Ever After)
