Premise & Quotes: Ganked from Amazon:
This book is written with a tender humor and a genuine compassion for the importance of the feelings and emotions of a child.
This little book is like iced tea on a hot day. It changes things inside of you.Joyce Faulkner, Author of "In the Shadow of Suribachi," "Losing Patience," "For Shrieking Out Loud," and "USERNAME."
There is so much love echoing through these stories -- love of family and love of nature -- they are a joy to read.Barbara Alfaro author of "Mirror Talk"
This is a book you will want to read again and again, particularly aloud to those who are important in your life.Inge Meldgaard author of "A death in the Making" and "The Cicada"
R. Garcia, the writer who is also known by his pen name "Phantomimic," brings you "The Sun Zebra", which is best described as a children's book for grownups. Its aim is to encourage us to discover (or rediscover) the amazing things that children and their magical carefree world can teach us, even as we try to teach them about the harsh realities of our own. The book is a collection of five stories that follow the "adventures in living" of an unusual little girl named Nell, her mother Rhonda, and Nell's father who is the narrator of the stories.
I loved these stories because they are a reminder of what's important in life: the bonds we have with our family and friends and the incredible magic of children.Ingrid Ricks author of "Hippie Boy"
The stories are pleasant, funny, and delightful to read, but you quickly discover that they go much deeper than you anticipated when you first began reading them.Robert David McNeil author of "Iona Portal"
Buy this book and you too will feel the sun shine on you in a new and different way. I promise.Laura Novak author of "Finding Clarity"
Colorimetry is happy to welcome Rolando, also known as Phantomimic. His book looks so refreshing to me... just what the doc ordered on this fine day!!
1. What inspired you to write The Sun Zebra?
My primary source of inspiration was a picture of a real sun zebra. I can’t talk more about this without spoiling the story. However, after this initial event I realized that the reason I was writing the stories was to get in touch with my inner child, and I hope these stories serve the same purpose for my readers.
2. What is your favorite scene or part of your book?
I like the scene from the story “Birdman and the Fairy Tale” where the father and Nell are standing in line to a fast food place. In this scene the father becomes aware of a sad truth about himself. This scene is special for me because it is true. It really happened to me once. Unfortunately I did not have Nell around to come to my rescue!
3. Please share something personal about you!!
I am a bit of a quirky Nerd like the character Sheldon from the sitcom “The Big Bang Theory.” Like him I am a scientist (but not a physicist). But unlike him I am a writer, and an eclectic one at that. Readers of the Sun Zebra will be surprised to discover that I have written stories under the pen name “Phantomimic” that range from science fiction to horror and from romance to fantasy. I also write essays and poetry. Does that make me a renaissance man?
About the Author:
Rolando Garcia is the peculiar eclectic writer who often writes under the pen name "Phantomimic". He was born on a Caribbean island and lived in several Latin American countries before residing permanently in the United States. Along the way he obtained a Ph.D. in a scientific discipline and produced several highly technical publications. However, one fine day he decided to fulfill his dream of writing something besides technical articles. This he began to do by publishing his eclectic work on Scribd.com, where his documents have accumulated more than one hundred thousand reads and hundreds of comments. Based in part on this enthusiastic response to his work, he decided to take it to the next level. His first book on the Amazon Kindle is the collection of short stories entitled: "The Sun Zebra".
