Daughter of Light
by Morgan L Busse
What if with one touch you could see inside the soul?
Rowen Mar finds a strange mark on her hand, and she is banished from her village as a witch. She covers the mark with a leather glove and seeks sanctuary in the White City. She lives in fear that if she touches another person, the power inside her will trigger again, a terrifying power that allows her to see the darkness inside the human heart . . .
But the mark is a summons, and those called cannot hide forever. For the salvation of her people lies within her hand.

I've been thinking of my review all day... I haven't finished the book, yet, but my opinion is spilling out already, anyway. So this is my early opinion... PRE-review:
First thoughts:
The writing style - WOW! I love the way Morgan thinks. Fast-paced, precise, urgent, logical, fluid. I really enjoy her writing.
Content: First half is fantasy for anyone and everyone. Mid-way took a dive into a very Christian perspective with Word appearing to Rowan. Borderline edgy-uncomfy-strong. The story then picks up again with the great fantasy, making me wish that encounter could've been adapted to the storyline smoother. I'm left with lots thoughts, anyway!
Characters: I love Rowan. She makes sense. The side characters are deep, motivated, varied. Amazing. I can't help like Caleb, oddly enough, and Lore, absolutely, and even the tangled red head. What's her name? She's cool.
World-building: OMG. Ok, this is where this book totally soars off the planet. There are so many things going on and they all flow so beautifully. People from the sea city have color-changing eyes depending on the moods of the ocean?! YES PLEASE!!! Seriously creepy bad guys - multiple kinds, mysterious like Lord of the Rings mysterious. Landscape I can see from the text without consulting the map. The desert scene from the balcony is achingly beautiful. I love this world
Rating and more thoughts to follow... what a unique book!!!
