Interview w/ Vynasha by @JennSilverwood from Craving Beauty on @PrismBookTours

On Tour with Prism Book Tours.

Craving Beauty
https://onedrive.live.com/redir?

Vynasha has spent the last four years tending her mother's roses and looking after her nephew. The fire that killed their family has left her scarred and put Wyll on the brink of death. Soon the first frost will come down from the mountains and she knows this winter will be his last.

Until a strange beggar appears on the road, telling her of the majikal Source that can heal her Wyll. With nothing left to lose, Vynasha braves the forbidden Wylder Mountains to seek out a cure and her fate.

A lost kingdom is uncovered by an equally lost girl, but the castle is not abandoned as she believes. Shadows cloaking unseen eyes watch. Tapestries whisper from the hidden corners, wondering if the one to break their curse has come. And a hungry beast waits, ready to devour her soul.

Note from J. Silverwood: The following interview was the last time anyone from the village of Whistleande had contact with her before Vynasha and her nephew, Wyll disappeared this winter. They are currently presumed dead by the local magistrate. One can only ponder what would drive these poor souls into a forest populated with danger and shrouded in myth.

You may find this interview published with other such local anecdotes in my soon-to-be-released book about the mysterious people of Whistleande, titled, “Lost to the Diamond War: Those Left Behind"

Interview with Vynasha

JS: Vynasha, thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to meet with us today!

V: Of course, you’re the first friendly stranger I’ve met since the war. Besides that strange beggar I met earlier today…

JS: We have heard so much about you and your illustrious family! Our records show your grandfather was one of the last of the North Lords, who at one time ruled over this valley.

V: Uh, thank you, but I don’t know if I’d call my family anything but notorious. Nothing good has happened to us in three generations. There’s a reason people think my family’s cursed, you know.

JS: We understand since the Diamond War your village of Whistleande has had a really difficult time. How are you able to stay afloat while others starve in the streets?

V: I trade roses in the village. People like beautiful things, I suppose.

JS: Fascinating! I’ve always wished I had a green thumb. A gentleman from Mayve’s Tavern said you live alone with your nephew on the border of the valley and the Wylder Mountains.

V: That would be my cousin, Stye. He likes to talk about things he has no business discussing with strangers.

JS: Other people from your village say those mountains are cursed and no one has ventured there in the last hundred years. They say the woods are haunted by dark spirits. Have you ever seen ghouls and changelings in the forest?

V: They’re just a legend, and people don’t travel that road because there’s nothing up there but snow and wolves…

JS: Forgive me but I can’t help the feeling you know more than you’re sharing with us. I want you to know nothing in this interview will be disclosed to anyone else.

V: I’d rather not and I think you say that to all the people you question.

JS: I can see you’re uncomfortable with this subject, let’s move on. People in the village seem to both fear and adore you, Vynasha. Care to share?

V: You see my face, don’t you? Look, I don’t really have time for this. I need to get home before the snow hits.

JS: If I could only borrow a few more seconds of your time, I had a couple more questions.

V: You can walk with me.

JS: Thank you! Whew, these hills really give the calves a workout…

V: Your questions? Two more and then we’re done.

JS: Of course! First, what would you say your biggest hope and dream is?

V: Um…I hadn’t really thought about it. I—I used to want to be an adventurer when I was little, but now I just want my nephew to be well. Winter is…difficult for him.

JS: Perhaps you could stay at the tavern with your cousin during the colder months.

V: No thank you. It’s awkward enough going into the village once a week. I couldn’t tend the roses from Whistleande and Stye has a gift for making things worse whenever he tries to help.

JS: I see. Final question, the same I asked every person I have encountered in Whistleande today. If you could change one thing about yourself or your circumstance, what would that be?

V: Everything.

JS: What do you mean?

V: You asked your two questions, I answered. Now it’s time for you to go back to the southlands or wherever it is you came from and me to go my way. I’m sorry, you seem like a kind person but this storm isn’t going to wait. Good day.

JS: Thank you for your time, Vynasha! Best of luck to you and your nephew, I hope you are able to follow your dreams one day.

V: Same to you.

Heroine Interview: Britt Bowen from Covering Home

What’s your favorite book?

I don’t have much time to read anything for fun during baseball season, but the last book I read that really stuck with me was The Help by Kathryn Stockett.

On a date, would you prefer an adrenaline-fueled adventure or a romantic candlelit dinner?

Oh, tough question. I love the adrenaline rush of a new adventure. But since it’s a date, I’d enjoy a romantic candlelit dinner.

What kind of drink do you order at Starbucks?

Venti skinny vanilla latte

If you could invite three people to dinner, living or dead, who would you choose?

Oh, wow. Only three? There are so many people I’d love to interview. My mother, because she died the day I was born. Obviously, we’d have a lot to talk about. Jane Chastain, because she was a pioneer for women in sports broadcasting. She must have some incredible stories and I’d love to say thank you for blazing a trail for those who followed her. Eric Liddell, the Scottish Olympic athlete, whose life story is portrayed in Chariots of Fire.

When you book a vacation, do you go to the beach or the mountains?

The beach! I’m a California girl.

Which baseball stadium is your favorite?

I think I’ve seen them all at this point, at least in the United States. I’m still partial to AT&T Park in San Francisco.

Tell us something unique about you.

I was the co-host of a morning talk show in San Francisco before I switched to sports broadcasting for professional baseball.

Do you have a quote that inspires you?

I have many. Here’s one I’ve focused on lately: “Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.”
-Ephesians 4:29.

My mouth can get me in trouble sometimes and this is a reminder to watch what I say, both professionally and personally.

What’s the best gift you could ever receive?

A long, relaxing weekend at the beach, preferably Santa Cruz or Monterey, California.

Interview with Marcus Akida

Hanna: All right Marcus, just state your name and tell us where you’re from.  Relax and look right into the camera.

Marcus: Ok.  Ah…Hello.  My name is Marcus Joseph Akida and I am from the city of Arusha in Tanzania.

Hanna: Tell us a little about your life, before you encountered the Guild.

Marcus: Yes.  I was an elementary school teacher and healer within my community.  My wife, Evelyn was a nurse.  We traveled together to rural areas within my country, providing health training and medicine, establishing schools.  My wife and I, we had a son named Joel.

Hanna: What happened to them? Can you tell us?

Marcus: They were burned to death, right in front of me, along with everyone in the village where we lived.  The men who came killed over 72 people that day, innocent people, just to get to me. It is an unimaginable thing to witness.

Hanna: Who did this?  Who murdered the people in your village?

Marcus: The Guild, or the United World Organization, whichever you prefer, they are one and the same.

Hanna: How do you know this?

Marcus: Because, after they slaughtered my wife and child – our entire village, I was taken to a facility.  They call it a Purification Center.  I was tortured there and given a drug called Luridium so that they could access and use my ability to see the future for their own gain.  I was held captive, isolated, tortured, then used by them for more than 13 years.  I have personally seen Guild leaders, Crane LeDieu, Andreas Menten and other prominent members of the UWO, herd new Seers into these facilities like cattle.

For some reason and I’m not sure why, my body was able to resist some of the most common effects of the Luridium.  Maybe it’s because I was older, almost 33, when they took me. Most Seers are very young – thirteen, fourteen, fifteen year olds – when they are captured.  I’ve seen it more times than I would ever care to count.  They barely know who they are.  I think the Guild captures them that young, because they are able to break them a lot easier than someone who is older.    Most Seers lose their memories of themselves, their families, everything.  By the time the purification process is over, most Seers that I have seen are barely aware of anything.  They do what the Guild requires without question or resistance.  The Luridium holds them in a waking sleep almost.  Fortunately, I was able to keep my memories, my awareness of the environment around me.  I kept this a secret of course, so that I could observe those around me and learn as much as I could.  It allowed me to piece together some of what was really happening and why.

Hanna: But the Guild claims that the Seer anomaly creates deep psychosis in the people who have it.  That the ability actually drives you insane, that is why you have been removed from society.  They claim that the “Purification Centers” as you call them are actually rehabilitation facilities. Can you speak to that?

Marcus: You know, I vaguely remember hearing stories about this before I was captured, but it seemed a world away from the people I knew and the world I lived in.  I am a bit ashamed to say that I honestly didn’t give it much thought.  I had always had a certain way of knowing things.  My grandmother had it, too.  I think now that she could have been a powerful Seer, but where I grew up, with the old ways of thinking, she was just a healer - a gifted person in my community. There was nothing unusual about that where I am from.  Now I wonder, what she might have been if the full extent of her gift was recognized and nurtured.

To answer your question, I understand why people believe that story.  It is easy to dismiss what you don’t understand, what seems strange and far-fetched.  All I can say is that, as I speak to you now, I am sure that I am in my right mind.  What happened to me, or any other Seer, is not because we are crazy or a danger to anyone.  What happened to me, to every single Seer now enslaved by the Guild, is because we have a gift, a power that they exploit to stay in control.  It is as simple as that.

Hanna: What do you want people to know.  What should they understand after watching this?

Marcus:  I want people to know that they are not immune to the oppression of the Guild and that their loved ones are not safe as long as the Guild has the power to do what they have done to me and thousands of others.  You or someone you love dearly, your child, your nephew, your sister, may be a Seer.  Any person could be a Seer.  You would never know this because the Guild tests each child for the genetic marker at birth.  The results are kept secret, until the Guild is ready to claim them, usually in their teenage years.  When they come, they will kill everyone who is closest to that Seer.  They will make them watch you die so that they believe they are broken and alone.

I tell you this, not to scare you. I tell you this because it is true. If you have someone in your life that has begun to show unusual abilities, please do not be afraid of them.  They will not harm you.  The ability to see the future is frightening.  It is difficult to manage the sensations and knowledge of seeing two realities at once, but it will not drive them crazy.  They need your help to make the transition.  Do not be afraid.  Help them. Protect them. Protect each other from the Guild.
