The Beloved Angel/Warrior Team from Until Next TimeReturns!

When Matt and Emily are sent on their second mission they have no idea how truly dark human nature can become…

Emily never wanted to face humans again. With the heartache that went on down below, she’s still trying to figure out how to save souls that don’t deserve saving. The only one she wants to see again is Jason - the young man she fell in love with who became the soulmate she simply can’t forget…

Matt was trained to protect and defend the souls down below. Longing to feel the heartfelt emotions that come from being human, Matt wants nothing more than to have just one life - one chance - to live and love the girl of his dreams…

The powerful team find themselves in a brand new century, living in the Gilded Age of New York City. Emily takes over the body of Anya, a young Russian girl who arrives on Ellis Island after a hideous tragedy. There she meets up with a strangely familiar young man by the name of Drew Parrish, who helps Anya survive in an unknown world of luxury, snobbery and…obsession.

What Anya’s inner angel doesn’t know is that the soul she loves is also back. This time around Jason goes by the name of Max Carrow. Once a quiet and kind boy, he’s now part of the ‘Four Hundred Club,’ and wants nothing more than to be among the most admired as he climbs the shaky ladder of society’s elite.

As two worlds merge, Emily and Matt struggle under the weight of their “Gilded Wings.” Not only will they have to figure out who they should fight to save, but they must also face a romantic choice that could destroy them both.

A mysterious explosion in Taiwan. Nuclear secrets stolen from Los Alamos. China’s manifest destiny at hand.
In the near future, America and China go head-to-head in a battle of technological bluffs, setting in motion a chain of events that could lead to skyrocketing oil prices, the end of the dollar, the American way of life, and the republic itself. The only man who might have an answer in the midst of the international crisis is Patrick “Mac” McDaniels, a world-renowned physicist who wants nothing to do with the government. Has he been conducting revolutionary energy research in secret? And if so, will McDaniels be America’s salvation—or its ruin?
My Review:

This is an astonishing book. It reads hyper-fast-paced, from dialogue to dialogue. It covers huge subjects from physics to politics, and yet I never felt left in the dust. I felt challenged & excited, pulled into the downward spiral.

Although the author tackled a large, frightening subject, he left a string of potential. This is not a thrilling movie arrested in motion, like I questioned at one point. It's more like a scientific study, through brightly colored glasses, of real potential disaster. Yet there was a sense of hope even in the face of disaster. Amazingly!

And yes, oh yes, my conspiracy theory lovin' heart heart pitter-pattered this entire book.

I have wondered, as I read some dystopians (that I thoroughly enjoyed, but never answered the question of) How?  This book is a fictional look at HOW the great United States could fall to it’s knees in 24 hours, what would build up to it, how close it might be to it. Suddenly Legend or Divergent make logical sense!

I recommend this book for everyone who likes action or is curious... for every Conspiracy Theorist who finds the collapse of an empire fascinating. Heck, if you like those movies where Bruce Willis blows up an asteroid or everyone races to China to get on one of the four Arcs or… any of those fast-pace, zip-around to different key character movies… this book reads like one of those. Only with rich background. The history behind every fictional character & movement is deliciously thick with real possibility. (And some swearing!)

I could hardly put the book down, it was that fast-paced. I could totally see this, or something very like it, happening for real. And it’s just a few more skips right into favorite dystopians.  Muahahahaha!!

Now... read it already, so we can have a spoiler-filled discussion!!!

My Rating: 4.5 - Great, fun book!!

Cover Commentary:  The cover has the look of something big with China & USA prominent behind the oil drill. That's a good hint at what's inside, although the calm tones are definitely in contrast. My favorite part is the title: The Quaker State Affair refers to how the Quakers live with no electricity or current amenities... and the Affair that brought the rest of the USA to their chosen way of life, like it or not! It's kind of a mouthful... and the book is satisfyingly solid to hold. I kinda knew I held something significant when it arrived!! Plus... check out the author's website... he's a business person who lightened & brightened his serious ideas to share!!  Love it.
