Launch - Note from the Author

Welcome to my blog tour with Prism!

I’m thrilled to be celebrating the release of my new book, The Doctor’s Recovery, in my City By The Bay Series with Harlequin Heartwarming. The Doctor’s Recovery is a sweet contemporary romance that brings together daredevil documentary filmmaker, Mia Fiore and ER doctor, Wyatt Reid. Two years ago, Wyatt and Mia shared an unforgettable goodbye kiss. Now a scuba diving accident has brought Mia into Wyatt’s San Francisco ER. Now Wyatt and Mia have second chance at a real relationship, but only if they can open themselves up to love and discover that they just might be stronger and better together.

Happy Reading!

Heidi Reads... - Adrenaline Rush or Adrenaline Pause

My heroine in my May release, The Doctor’s Recovery is a documentary film-maker. Mia Fiore, a thrill seeker and risk-taker has traveled the world for her films. Still there are many adventures to be found right here in the US. Here are five of Mia’s top adventures for thrill-seekers like her. And for those who prefer to keep their feet on the ground and their adventures with a little less adrenaline like myself, each location has an alternative experience that offers its own unforgettable memories...

Harlequin Junkie - Spotlight & Exclusive Giveaway

Please share a few Fun facts about this book…

The working title of this book was Broken Vows, Mended Hearts. I’m not the best at titles (you can ask my daughters who cringe when I list my title ideas). So I’m very thankful for my editor who comes up with terrific final titles.

While I was researching this book, I watched quite a few videos of underwater dives and scuba diving accidents. Several of those scuba diving accidents made me seasick and I was sitting at my desk, watching the video on my computer. I’m not sure scuba diving will be in my future.

In The Doctor’s Recovery, there is a scene where the characters make a bet over a chess game challenge. The losers have to eat strange and weird food that the winners pick like moldy cheese jelly beans and beet ice cream. I discovered avocado ice cream during my research into strange food combinations and it’s become one of my favorites. I should probably mention I’ve been on an avocado binge recently and can’t seem to get enough no matter how it is prepared.

“But I have an actual job.” She clutched Dr. Hensen’s arm, holding him in place. The startled look behind his round glasses hinted at his retreat back inside his mental textbook. Mia continued, “And an important deadline to meet.”

A brisk knock and sure footsteps preceded the order from a familiar voice. “Right now, your only job is to heal.”

Dr. Hensen tugged his arm free and darted toward Wyatt Reid. Relief coated Dr. Hensen’s voice and slid into his extended handshake with Wyatt. “Nice to see that they let you out of the ER, Dr. Reid. We could certainly benefit from your skills up here.” He pushed on his glasses and glanced at Mia. “I agree with my colleague, Mia. You need to concentrate on your recovery. Don’t fight the process. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

"An emotional journey towards forgiveness, redemption and happily ever afters! . . .The characters are intriguing and keep us wanting to know more. The story line is a bit distracting, yet satisfying in it’s own way. Overall, a heart tugging story with a twist that is very enjoyable!"

Colorimetry - Beyond the Hospital

In my May release, The Doctor’s Recovery, my hero, Wyatt Reid, is an ER physician. For the past five years, Wyatt has been doing medical-aide work in the Africa. During my research for The Doctor’s Recovery, I discovered several unique jobs for physicians and medical professionals that were outside of the hospital and clinic environment...

"The Doctor’s Recovery by Cari Lynn Webb is my kind of story – rich in character depth and relationship drama – and I enjoyed it very much. There’s a complexity to lead characters Mia and Wyatt, much of it drawing from past events in their lives. San Francisco’s Bay area provides a vivid backdrop for the story, and there’s a great supporting cast as well."

"A great cast of intriguing secondary characters provides delightful support (and lighter moments) to the two multilayered protagonists and their relationship. Both Wyatt and Mia are easy to like and easy to cheer for, and Wyatt is swoonily romantic when it counts. I love how the title factors into the book and the subtle ways that it takes on meaning throughout. A heart-tugging and inspiring read!"

Wishful Endings - Inspiration for The Doctor's Recovery

My mother is a retired RN. She worked full-time through her first three pregnancies. When I came along (the last of four and the only girl), she stopped working. My father traveled frequently for his job and raising four children required full time hours from my mom. When I was in seventh grade, my mom decided to go back to nursing. A few weeks into her return to work, she came home and told me that she was considering quitting. She’d been out of the medical field for a while and the learning curve had increased over those years...

Wyatt leaned toward the bed and held Mia’s good hand between both of his. The contact satisfied nothing. He wanted a reaction. He wanted her to wake up, squeeze his fingers and reassure him that she really was alive. How pathetic had he become?

Mia Fiore needed a keeper. She needed someone to watch out for her and keep her from putting her life at risk again. She needed someone to show her that she was worth more alive than dead. She needed someone to love her beyond all reason.

Fortunately, that someone wasn’t Wyatt.

Mia studied the Craftsman bungalow with the front porch that begged for a swing. Tree branches draped over the fence in front of the truck as if reaching out to greet newcomers. She’d never considered settling into a house, but imagined a lovely home like Helen’s would be perfect. Even from the truck, something special surrounded the house as if the ground carried Mother Nature’s blessing. “You grew up here?” She heard both the awe and jealousy in her voice.

“Built a tree fort in the backyard and played hide-and-seek in the street.” Wyatt leaned across her and opened her door.

Mia imagined the boy inside the man racing through the neighborhood and acting like a pirate in the tree house. A child’s dream. Couches covered in sheets and lampshades wrapped in plastic anchored her childhood, making mud pies and collecting fireflies had been prohibited. Her childhood home looked as if it waited, suspended in time, dust-free under the protective coverings, until a new family moved in to give it life again. Stepping onto the porch, she understood why Helen refused to leave. She’d refuse to leave as well if she called this place home. “How’d you ever leave?”

"This book is so sweet, delightful, heartwarming and, at times, emotional. I thought it was pretty good. Mia and Wyatt were great, relateable characters, with perfect chemistry. I could not wait to find out what would happen next and wound up reading the whole book in one sitting."

What about you?” She leaned against him as they strolled back to the house.

“I’ll clean up the last bit from the dessert round and then sleep,” he said.

“I can help,” she offered.

“I’m not asking.” He guided her up the stairs into the house and motioned toward the bedrooms. “Good night, Mia.”

She turned around, held the palm he’d kissed up to her lips and smiled. “Sweet dreams, Doc.”

And then Wyatt knew. Knew that if he dared believe in the magic between them, his heart would never be the same. His life would never be the same.

"I really liked Helen, Wyatt's mom. She's brought many a smile to my face.

The romance seemed really sudden, but it was still sweet and satisfying.

Overall, I thought this was an enjoyable read and I'll definitely be on the lookout for more by this author."

I Am A ReaderFour-legged Visitors Only, Please

I’m an animal lover – I can’t walk into a pet shelter or pet store without wanting to bring home every dog and cat waiting for their forever home. If only I had the land and resources to adopt each one. In the meantime, I’ll keep volunteering at the rescue shelter and praying that every animal in need of a home finds one soon...

"These main characters…oh my! They were too similar for their own good. At first it might have seemed that they were opposites, however they both struggled with misplaced guilt and both were extremely stubborn!

...This story had lots and lots of great side characters in it and I enjoyed getting to know about all of them too. I enjoyed this contemporary romance."

A thick black curtain concealed Wyatt in the back of the private dining room in the Rustic Grill. His position was ideal for the guests’ arrival, offering a full view of guests without revealing himself. Laughter blended with varied conversations as the main doors to the dining room slid open. He skipped over Ava’s big smile and Eddy’s curls and his mother’s soft grin, searching the group spilling inside.

Finally, his gaze caught the one dark-haired, amber-eyed woman who had stamped herself in permanent ink on his heart. He snapped a picture in his mind of her in that moment: her eyes wide and brilliant, her skin glowing as if she’d been lit from within, her teal dress accentuating everything her favorite scrubs hid. He wanted to wrap her up in his embrace and steal her away right then, but he waited, held still in the shadowed corner.

"Emotions do not begin to describe the Doctor's Recovery. . . . You will not be let down by picking up this heartwarming read. "

Beyond the Hospital

In my May release, The Doctor’s Recovery, my hero, Wyatt Reid, is an ER physician. For the past five years, Wyatt has been doing medical-aide work in the Africa. During my research for The Doctor’s Recovery, I discovered several unique jobs for physicians and medical professionals that were outside of the hospital and clinic environment.

* The inspiration for Wyatt’s medical aide work came from my research on the international medical humanitarian organization, Doctors Without Borders. Doctors Without Borders provides medical care to people in need in over 60 countries around the world. I was inspired reading the field blogs from the staff and in awe of these incredible people and what they do around the world. For more information on how you can help, please visit their website: doctorswithourborders.org

* Air Ambulance – this particular job came to my attention while we were stuck on the I-95 during a recent return trip from Disney World. All four lanes of traffic were stopped on either side of the highway due to a multi-car accident. We’d been stopped for about twenty minutes when my daughter leaned between the seats and asked: “Is that helicopter landing on the freeway?” Sure enough, the helicopter was an Air Ambulance that landed in the middle of the highway near the accident sight. We were close enough to watch one victim secured to a gurney and placed inside the helicopter. After a prayer for the injured, I had my daughter research Aeromedical evacuation on her phone and fill me in on the job requirements. Physicians, RNs and paramedics are part of the Air Ambulance staff that treats critically injured people at accidents and transports them to nearby hospitals. If you don’t mind flying and have the training, this would be an intense, although I imagine also a very rewarding job.

* For those with an RN degree, the traveling nurse position has always interested me. My mother is a retired RN. When I was younger, we lived in Hawaii and she worked in a Women’s and Children’s hospital in Honolulu. We were fortunate to have one of the traveling nurses live with us several times over the years. I always liked hearing about the places this particular nurse had been and where she was headed to next. She’d seen a lot of the country with her job. If you like to travel and have a nursing degree, this is an alternative employment option. Traveling nurses. usually work for 13-26 weeks in one place before moving on. Travel expenses and living arrangements are included in the job.

As I don’t have a medical degree, unless Google searches on medical conditions count, I’ll keep writing characters who live in the medical world. And I’ll thank the real-life doctors, nurses and medical professionals that give their time, energy and expertise every day to patients and their families. We are blessed and fortunate to have such incredible medical care.
Happy Reading!

By Melinda Curtis, Cari Lynn Webb, & Anna J. Stewart

Did you enjoy meeting Cooper, Ty, and Gideon, three childhood friends all grown up and seeking love? If you missed any of the excerpts or reviews, go back and check them out now...

Launch - Intro to the Compilation

And in Kenkamken Bay, Alaska, childhood friends: Cooper Hamilton, Ty Porter and Gideon Walker are family: they’ve dreamed together, failed together and stalled out in life together. And now they plan to change their futures together as match-makers.

Heidi Reads... - Review

". . . once they put their efforts into helping the single members of the community improve their social lives the stories got more fun as they came up with interesting group activities to do in the dead of winter. The first two stories were okay but I loved the third one!"

I Am A Reader - Excerpt from Baby, Baby

The inner front door opened and a woman stepped in. She was wrapped from neck to snow boots in a reddish-brown parka that made her look like a stuffed sausage. Conversation in the room died away as every pair of male eyes turned toward her. She peeled off her knit cap, revealing shoulder-length, glossy blond hair and artfully applied makeup.

"Sometimes, novellas that are connected but are written by different authors don't feel cohesive, but in this case, the collection flowed seamlessly from one novella to the next."

Colorimetry - Excerpt from Baby, Baby

And the witty, handsome man she’d met ten months ago with the mischievous smile? He wasn’t witty—he was speechless. He wasn’t handsome—his dark hair brushed his shoulders unevenly and grew from his chin in short, thick stubs. He wasn’t smiling—his lips formed a shell-shocked, silent O.

Zerina Blossom's Books - Excerpt from The Matchmaker Wore Skate

Kelsey Nash, the beautiful, backstabbing columnist, had returned to K-Bay. The pretty looks belied an icy inner strength; the watered-down bourbon doe eyes camouflaged a shrewd nature.

deal sharing aunt - Excerpt from The Matchmaker Wore Skates

Ty leaned down to whisper in her ear. “Let’s be clear, K.J., we’ve seen these ladies before. They’ve taken our survey before. You’ve done nothing for me.”

Wishful Endings - Excerpt from Suddenly Sophie

As gray as Gideon saw his world, Sophie lightened up any space she walked into with her ebullient and gregarious personality—character traits Gideon both appreciated and worried about. Not everyone was as protective as he was prone to be when it came to Sophie Jennings.

"The first book sets things up and the last one ties things together. I liked that each book was by a different author. It helped separate the characters and define them as individuals with their own voice."

Mel's Shelves - Review

"The authors did an amazing job of making the stories seamless. The major characters were in each of the stories and they were consistent. I also love that the stories are all clean! If you're looking for a fun Valentine's Day read, check this one out!!"

"4 STARS! . . . This is a compilation of three short stories that revolve around a group of friends."

Underneath the Covers - Excerpt from Suddenly Sophie

If she’d ever doubted the universe was determined to make her its comic relief, she now had solid proof. Stuffy Gideon probably disapproved of Sophie’s tendency toward taking chances, but what was the point in living if you weren’t going to go after life with a bit of gusto and purpose?

"I loved that each story has a unique voice, which is really pronounced by having a different author write each one. I enjoyed my time in Kenkamken, Alaska with these great people!"

You’ve met Anna J. Stewart (or someone like her) before. She was the girl who spun in circles on the playground hoping her Wonder Woman costume would magically appear before playing cops and robbers a la Charlie’s Angels–as Sabrina (she was the smart one). Anna was the girl in the back of the class with a paperback romance hidden in her algebra book (and yes, she failed algebra).

Growing up in the 70′s and 80′s meant there weren’t a lot of YA books, so she ventured early into mainstream fiction and read Stephen King’s CARRIE at the age of 8. Discovering Nora Roberts and romance novels early in high school opened her eyes to the wonders of storytelling and the beauty of a happily ever after.

So here she is, many years later with an English degree from CSU Sacramento, an RWA Golden Heart nomination behind her, countless stories in her head, and a serious addiction to STAR TREK, SUPERNATURAL, and SHERLOCK. She recently wrapped up a nearly 8-year stint working as assistant to NYTimes bestselling author Brenda Novak where she helped run Brenda's annual online auction for diabetes research. When she's not writing or reading (which she never has enough time for!), she's working on dollhouse miniatures and tolerating her overly-affectionate cat named Snickers (or perhaps it's Snickers who tolerates her).

Excerpt #2 -Baby, Baby by Melinda Curtis

“You don’t remember me, do you?” Nora Perry couldn’t help sounding angry and embarrassed. She’d traveled more than one hundred miles on a bus. It’d taken six hours instead of two. She was tired. The baby was tired.

Coop led Nora to a tall wooden booth in the dimly lit, seen-better-days bar. She hung her parka on a booth hook, dropped her backpack to the floor and sat on the cold wooden bench too quickly, landing on her sit bones.

Zoe fussed, probably overheated from Nora’s resolve-melting mortification.

Coop didn’t remember her? Subtract fifty points from his man-appeal tally.

Last time Nora had seen Coop he’d had a stylish, clean-shaven jaw, a stylin’ opening line and a styled set of dance moves that would’ve qualified him for a spot on Dancing with the Stars, Alaska edition. They’d met at a bar in Anchorage last spring. Spring being a time when folks got a little nutty in Alaska because everything returned to “normal” for a few months. You didn’t have to wear parkas the size of sleeping bags or shovel as much snow.

“You don’t remember me, do you?” Nora repeated when Coop continued to be struck dumb. She was having trouble slipping off the baby carrier straps. Her lower lip trembled, much like Zoe’s did when her dirty diaper didn’t get changed quickly enough. “Am I that forgettable?” Her pride and her stomach slid to the floor. “Don’t answer that.”

Nora finally got the straps off and settled Zoe in the crook of her arm. “You had no trouble with words that night in Anchorage.” There. A clue. Perhaps the humiliation would end.

Coop couldn’t seem to drag his green gaze from Zoe. “I…uh…”

Or not. More mortifying heat flash-flooded her body. And when emotion flooded her hormonal, post-pregnancy body, which was often lately, her milk came in.

Could things get any worse? “We met at a bar.”

“Uh…” His gaze stroked her face and then dropped below her chin to the milk production department.
