Exciting NEWS!! I love fairytales!!!!  :-D  Wha-? You already knew that?!  Phfththfffft  Maybe you already know that one of my favorite things to do is recreate some of my favorite things about one of the tales in images? Ya?  :-)  Reading Scarlet, remembering Cinder... this post was a delight to create:

Cinderella tells a story... 

1 - All is not well... it is, in fact, very bad except for the friendship of animals.

2. Hope beyond hope... silly, really, but there's hope.

3. Unbelievable beauty. (It is too beautiful to be real.)

4. There's also a pumpkin. Some shoes. A clock.

5. There is leaving... daring to do something different. So brave.

6. A formidable castle... containing the most handsome of princes... eep!

7. There is pressure, tension... fear.

6. A confidence that wells up inside, undaunted.

7. But time runs out... nothing is quite right.

8. Important things are left unfinished.

9. There isn't time to make things right.

10. Hurry, hurry! It all falls apart.

11. A complete disaster.

12. Dare to be like Cinderella...

Faerytale Friday... Little Red

I could go all night... I love collecting pictures of Little Red Riding Hood. After reading Scarlette, I see the red as more... like blood. And the snow sets it off so beautifully. What a dark tale!!  Of course, I haven't read Scarlet by Marissa Meyer, yet. I can't wait!!

I am a long time fan of author Robin McKinley. I have read many of her books over and over. You know how some authors write like they are following the thoughts in your head? Seriously spooky.

She has written two retellings of Beauty & the Beast, which, of all the faerytales, is my fav. Beauty is flowy and cute. It dances through the story adding everything that simply must be there and satisfying all my impossible expectations. But Rose Daughter... pricks like a thorn and gets dirt under your mental finger nails. *shiver* I love it. LOVE it.


If there is any remote chance that someone has not read Rose Daughter, the only solution is to share my well-loved copy. On the very distant, improbably chance that more than one person has not read Rose Daughter, I shall offer my worn copy in a giveaway. International, of course.

I don't think there is any way I can "review" this book properly. As Kali & I were discussing there are some books that you love so much you don't want to know if anyone else disagrees. I will give you one warning: Do not tell me if you don't like this book. We will have a problem. There are too many wonderful books out there to argue over this one... so seriously, zip it.

Fairytale in Photos - Tangled

Amber @ Down the Rabbit Hole posts Fairy Tale Photos and I like 'em. Today her theme is Tangled, which is Disney's version of Rapunzel.... which raises the question of To Disney or not to Disney?


Weeeeellll, on one hand, Disney (or any awesome cartoonist) whips up a super-cute version of beloved fairytales, right?  "Cute" as is Happily Ever After.  Hopefully, they create interest in old fairytales.


The flip side is... it's hard to get past this cute version!!  After seeing their beautiful rendition of long, silky hair, will any other hair fill the imagination when reading about Rapunzel?!  Too unforgettable! And so darn CUTE.


My goodness... it makes fairytale lovers like me feel like I should be skipping through a cartoon setting with rainbow colored flowers in my hair. 


*cough* 


That's not me.


If we must talk about Tangled today (excuse my complaining) let's discuss pro's & con's. (Click on the pix to see where I found 'em.)

Hunchback of Notre Dame

Amber at Down the Rabbit Hole posted about the Hunchback of Notre Dame today. Honestly, I had to read up on it. I've seen the Disney version, but everything so cute (if darkly themed) and I had a feeling there was more grit behind the cuteness than I could guess. I was right.

The original story was written in the early 1800's about the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, which had fallen to ruin. The author, Victor Hugo, brought attention to this incredible cathedral with his story which took place in the 1400's.

Has anyone read this? It is a heart-breaking story according to what I read in Wikipedea. Beautiful Esmeralda saves Quasimodo, but when he tries to save her, he is betrayed by his father-figure and she dies. She dies!! So Quasimodo lies down next to her discarded corpse and dies, too.

The story surrounds the cathedral... so I start with Notre Dame... Which one tugs at your heart?
