I took a bunch of pictures at our 4th of July BBQ party!  

Anticipation!  We had the food tent set up, the chairs and the makeshift table to light the fireworks on. Behind that was a fire extinguisher & a bucket of water. Hey, never trust fireworks, right?

The best part about this picture is I get to show you this tree!! It's a willow tree that received some funky trimming from an excavator. (See which one I mean?) When I first saw it, I was like, Wha? Why leave a tree partially trimmed like that, just hangin' out all awkward, and all? But then I noticed that it's not awkward... it's dancing!!  So, allow me to introduce... The Dancing Tree!

This one was so awesome, we had to check out the leftover debris:

We had a bonfire going to clean up the mess and warm up the watchers. Yea, it was chilly on a July evening. Hey, we're in the Northwest!!  (Think Forks.)

Did you see the moon?!  It came up orange & mysterious lookin' over our party.

Did you light some fireworks to celebrate the 4th of July? I'm happy to share some of our memories even if you don't live in the USA. I've thoroughly enjoyed the Canadian posts this past week. Cultural stuff is fun to share, you know?

First... I met FOUR AUTHORS Friday night at the Spring Into the Furture Tour!!!

It was so weird that Friday's FF question was What would you say to your fav author?  I totally predicted I'd stand there tongue-tied, and pretty much, that was it. I lived out my prediction.

Cynthia Hand got odd huge smiles out of me, but no "loved your book" or "can't wait to read this one" or even "I agree, 'Clara' is such a great name!"  Nope.  Just insanely odd smiles.


Tahereh Mafi drew me out a little more 'cause she recognized my blog name from my stalking her the day before. I nearly fainted, nearly swoll up like a balloon and popped and fainted all at once, but barely managed more than "gah... yay!" in speech. Sheesh.

Anna Carey was so nice... I've only read the first quarter of Eve, but I might have mentioned how sweet it is or exciting or something. But nope.

Veronica Rossi is a little intimidating, anyway... she was a perfect last station wrap up to keep the line moving.

My cheeks hurt from grinning though. (Cheshire cat?!)

I took notes during the Q & A... so I'll share some more fun stuff SOON. I'm so glad they all came to Portland, OREGON!!!  :-D

Saturday Snapshot - 14 yr anniversary pix!!

Lemme just point out that I've been saying I had some authors' books to post about... and there are so, so many MORE, believe me!!  If only there was more of me, like an organized me, to set all these up, what a steady flow of awesome authors we could see!!!  (holy cow that rhymes!! I'm on a roll!!)

Thank you especially to everyone for all the well-wishin' all week. I came down with some horrible virus Sunday and I'm still hackin' a lung a week later... but managed to celebrate our Anniversary in style!!  It was quite the week!!!  All the encouraging thoughts & pix for Spring Fling have kept me chuckling every day.

The Moon is an innocent thing, you would think... hanging in the sky, so beautiful. 

Well... trying to find a peaceful book that includes either the subject of the Moon or a picture of the Moon is virtually impossible. I found a lot of WILD night activity, which reminded me of how busy Emergency Rooms at hospitals everywhere get on the night of full moon!!!

What is up with that?! 

I found the following books that included the MOON for giveaway.  Pretty much anything that says or includes MOON applies. You try and find INNOCENCE and MOON in the same book... it's tricky!!

So this is a rather VICIOUS giveaway... I fought the vampire pull to gather together an eclectic variety.

                

Um... obviously most of these are pulled from my experience. Cinder's a great book and it's called Book #1 of the Lunar Chronicles, so it's IN!  :-)  Elizabeth Moon is a great author and this first book of her Vatta Series is really fun. Heinlein is... well, Heinlein. Patricia Briggs popped up more than any other author and I've heard Moning & Dessen are amazing. Barnes wrote a really great wolf series, I think, and Kitty is a MUST-READ for me, which leaves Bayou Moon... she's got a sword.

I would wax on to greater depths about something except it's time to cook dinner and the munchkins are foraging, which means if I don't get cookin', we'll be out of cool snacks within the hour.

have you had a "Moon Moment" - share it with me!!!

My answer... I was in the middle of Mexican nowhere and the sun set in the western desert while the moon rose in the east over the ocean at the exact same time ('cause I was on a peninsula). I was swinging in a hammock in a mini palapa thinking I must've arrived in heaven. Warm breeze... zero people... endless beach... just the sound of the ocean...

*sigh*
